Ernesto...55 mph and you call yourself a hurricane....puhlease.

So I am battening down the hatches, and preparing for ol' boy Ernesto to blow in....blow in...get it, because he is a hurricane.

Not but seriously..I have no idea what battening down hatches means.

But really, this whole Ernesto thing has me remembering hurricanes gone by. Because for some reason it always seemed that every year of college we would have some kind of hurricane or tropical storm. Causing us to pick up, and move to someones house, and set up shop for however long the storm ensued. At this point we would be running to Food Lion, and buying all the cases of beer our arms could hold. See in a college town its the beer that gets bought up, and the bread shelves remain stocked.

But..times, they are a changin...because instead of looking at Ernesto as the chance to miss school, or work...I am more concerned that all the rain we will get is going to put a kink in my NYC plans. And that will make me hate Ernesto, and his stupid wind and rain!

Winter, Spring, Summer, FALL

I am ready for fall. I am ready for a chill in the air. I am ready to not have to get into a 100 degree car, with a hot steering wheel. Im ready to layer clothes, instead of trying to wear as little as possible. I am ready for weekend events that don't involve swimsuits. Im ready for FALL.

There are so many things that I love about the season fall. I love that during the day its in the lower 70's upper 60's, but at nights its brisk and cool. And maybe, just maybe you might smell someones fireplace in the distance. I love fall because you can wear jeans, but still get away with your favorite flip flops. I love that fall brings on football, and tailgating, and drinking beer with friends, and grilling out hot-dogs.

I like fall because I love sweaters. If its cable knit this girl is a happy camper. I like fall because its a whole new wardrobe. There are pieces to pull out from the previous fall, but then stores have a whole new crop of wardrobe items ripe for the picking. Im so excited about the new fall colors, and fabrics and styles that I could just scream!

Summer has it's place in my heart don't get me wrong. I love the beach, and the pool, and boat drinks, and being tan...but I have done all those to death this summer. Im ready for the mountains, and fireplaces, a good glass of red.

If you can't tell...I am a little over summer.

when it rains it pours

So yesterday I was caught in a tropical depression.
For those of you who don't know a tropical depression is basically what happens before a storm gets upgraded to hurricane status. and nobody told me that one was festering off the east coast, and like a jackass i ventured to Wilmington for work the worst possible day to visit.

I was right on the outskirts of Wilmington (in Hampstead NC) and decided to call up my friend Becky for lunch. Becky works downtown Wilmington, which has lots of cute/delicious restaurants. AS I was making my way into town it started to sprinkle...as I neared downtown, it was pouring. But it subsided just in time for me and Becky to find a parking space, and walk the few blocks to the restaurant. We sat down to lunch, and literally the bottum fell out. We remarked at how it was nice to be indoors, and not outside in such a bad storm. As lunch went on it kept raining, but over good food, and equally good convo we didn't seem to notice. It wasn't till after we had finished eating, that we looked outside, and noticed that it was raining just as hard as when we first got there.

So me and Becky decided to wait the storm out over hot tea. We enjoyed our tea, and after we were done it was still pouring....so the waitress brought more tea...(well really just more hot water) and we waited some more.

By this point it was pretty obvious to me and Becky that the wait staff was trying to close down. In fact when we asked if they had dessert they told us they didn't have any, and then they turned out all the lights. Me and Becky thought that both of these were signs that we should probably leave. And I should note, that we had been there almost 3 hours waiting out the storm that had no end.

So we walked out of the door....and stood under the awning of the resaurant for a good 15 minutes while we contemplated our next move. It was still pouring, the streets flooded, and no where to find shelter. We had to make a run for it. So we took off our heels, rolled up our dress pants, and set to running through the streets of Wilmington, stopping at various bus stops. I don't know what was worse....being soaking wet, or being barefoot in a bus stop...you decide.

We finally made it to the car, and we were soaked to the bone. The thing about it is that I should have known something ridiculos would ensue from hanging out with Becky....something usually does when you hang with her. You never know what you will get when you call Becky up for a visit...but you can be guarenteed that there will be laughs involved.

my weekend was fun...how was yours?

This weekend I ventured up I 95 to see my b/f, and my b/f (translation my boyfriend, and best friend). I made the stop in DC Friday night, and attended a super apt. warming party on the roof deck of JJs new pad. The view is to die for, the food was scrumptious, and the beer and wine never ran out...all three things contributed to a very good time. Although I did have an issue with the way DC'ers play beer pong...they play with 10 cups, and to me that is just way too many. As soon as we got on the table the 10 cups dwindled to 6, and the games went by so much faster.

Saturday was a chill day..Chipotle...The Columbia Mall...PF Changs for dinner, a bottle of wine, and the Redskins game. Perfect.

Sunday we did brunch with BK's dad, and Grammy...and I won 15 dollars at keno!

This is the section of the blog where I would most likely post pics from the past weekend...unfortunatly I took none. But it was a good weekend none-the-less.

this just in.

So I don't watch the Greenville news stimulate my mind, I don't even watch it to find out whats going on, to be honest I try to NEVER watch the Greenville evening news. However sometimes while channel surfing at the akward 5:30-6:30 hour where you just finished work, and just want to veg on the couch for a little bit....sometimes my remote control will happen upon the Greenville news.

That is exactly what happened yesterday, and the following is a story that was featured on the Greenville evening news, and a prime example why I don't go to this stations newcast as a source of information.

So you know its hot outside...right? We covered that a few weeks ago. But the news always thinks of really "clever" ways to prove the heat outside. Like they will put a bag of ice on the pavement, and time its departure to the liquid state, or my personal favorite when the weather person cracks an egg on the asphalt to see if it will fry...and sure enough...it does. But yesterday was something I had never seen done to test the heat. And that was getting people from the community to stick their heads in giant bowls of ice cream. Yes that is right....these people were just going about there daily business, and they decided to stick their heads into vanilla ice cream. Now I have a couple problems with this. Firstly its a waste of ice cream. They were wasting gallons and gallons, of fine, delicious, ice cream to do this ridiculos experiement. Now secondly these people were given nothing in return for them sticking their faces in giant bowls of ice cream. I mean lets face it everyone has a price, and if someone had offered me some money I may have done it. But I would never voluntarilly stick my head in ice cream....theres just some things people should not do for free. And finally and this goes back to a theme that I have stated before...but is it SOOOO hot that the only way you feel like you can cool off is to stick your head in ice cream?? Come on...think about it people. Once you are covered in ice cream not only will you be hot, but you will also be sticky. And sticky and hot, are two things I do not like to be.

So I am just going to try and stay away from the Greenville evening news. I think there are bigger issues they could be covering, but for some reason don't...or maybe this is what people find newsworthy in this town. Either way I did just get a hankering for ice cream.
