diva-licious in hometown USA

Like I said in a previous post I am directing Scrooge again this year in Farmville NC. This is one of the cutest towns you might ever see. Every time I ride through its main street part of me is like..gosh I could live here, right beside Aunt Bee, and Andy Griffith.
But even in small towns you come across some Divas. Or I think Divo is the masculine version of this.
Last year we had a fabulous guy play the lead of Scrooge... he was very talented, had studied in London, performed all around the world...lets just say he was talented. At times talent gives people a big head. Well he shows up again this year, and reads at the audtion for Scrooge...now this year we had a really good crowd show up to audition, with a lot of talent. Another guy came and read for Scrooge, and was realllly good. So I cast the other guy as Scrooge, and the Scrooge from last year as Jacob Marley...also a very good role. And this is the email he sent me declining the part...

Sorry for the delay.
I've put a lot of thinking into this decision.
I came to audition this year mostly because people had asked me again and again if I was going to do Scrooge again. Not only my friends but people at the Farmville theater. I told them I probably would but that the director makes the decision who to cast.I think Leo will do a fabulous job with Scrooge.I would probably do a great job with the plum role of Marley but....My motivation for doing Scrooge again would have been to do it the way I had hoped to do it. I feel the short period of rehearsal was enough to get the basics but like you said a lot of the performance was still in my head and hadn't had enough time to breath the role into life. But you can't go home again, as they say.My desire to perform sometimes takes over against my better judgement. My wife has been giving me hints that she'd like me to stay home (not forever-don't make me make that decision, dear). And things at work just hit a rocky place. You don't plan on flying Marley do you? I would enjoy flying....I think you will have a great show, even without me. Good luck with all of it. I hope things will work out and we might get the chance to work together again on another project.

Darling...im sorry we will not work together again. This is one of the most unprofessional things I think a person can do. To assume you have a role...well that makes an ass out of u and me...or really just you.

Also football season has started, and tommorow is the first ECU homegame. We are really pumped to see some friends we haven't seen in a while, and watch ECU beat Carolina!!!
Im directing Scrooge again this winter, and had my first production meeting with my staff the other night. With work its hard to get to do theatre sometimes, so I am really looking forward to directing Scrooge again, and dipping my feet into the theatre world for a little while.
Fall is almost here, and thats my favorite season. Budge and I have a super busy fall with his sisters upcoming nuptials, and I am in a friends wedding in November also. Not to mention we have season tickets to all the homegames in Greenville. We are trying to make it to every one!
